NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a pan-India medical entrance test. It is ideally carried out for candidates who have taken up class 12 examinations. Formerly, there were multiple state-level tests, including that of JIPMER and AIIMS all of which are scrapped by NEET now. Consequently, NEET now stands as the only medical entrance test that must be cleared by candidates who wish to seek admissions to medical programmes.
For the uninitiated, NEET-UG is carried out for admissions to MBBS/BDS/BSMS/BAMS/BHMS/BUMS and other related undergraduate medical programmes from recognized Medical/AYUSH and other institutes. NEET UG 2021 scores may be used for admissions to B.Sc nursing courses. The NTA (National Testing Agency) is the conducting body for NEET.
The NTA is accountable for the conduction of the examination, result-declaration and provision of category-wise AIR (All India Ranks)/ Merit list. This information must be submitted to the DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) & the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, for the conduction of counselling.
